Graduates in Therapy of Neuro- and Psychomotor Development are healthcare professionals who work, in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team of child neuropsychiatry and other pediatric disciplines, in the prevention, therapy, and rehabilitation of childhood neuropsychiatric disorders in the areas of neuro-psychomotor development, neuropsychology, and developmental psychopathology.
With reference to medical diagnoses and prescriptions, within their specific competencies, they:
Adapt therapeutic interventions to the unique characteristics of pediatric patients with diverse clinical profiles that change over time in relation to emerging functions;
Identify and develop, within the multidisciplinary team, prevention, therapy, and rehabilitation programs aimed at overcoming the health needs of children with developmental disabilities;
Implement therapeutic and rehabilitative interventions for perceptual-motor, neurocognitive disorders, and disorders of symbolization and interaction from birth;
Carry out procedures aimed at integrating subjects with neuro-psychomotor and cognitive disabilities and handicaps;
Collaborate within the multidisciplinary team with educational professionals for the implementation of prevention, functional diagnosis, and dynamic-functional profiling in individualized education plans;
Provide therapy for neuro-psychomotor, psychomotor, and neuropsychological disabilities in developmental age using age-specific and developmental stage-specific techniques;
Conduct assessments of the interrelation between affective functions, cognitive functions, and motor functions for each neurological, neuropsychological, and psychopathological developmental disorder;
Identify needs and carry out diagnostic and therapeutic assessments of the somatic representation and bodily experience, as well as general functional potential and object relations; develop and implement therapeutic programs that use neuromotor schemas and projects as mental acts and as cognitive and metacognitive tools;
Also use body dynamics to integrate mental functions and interpersonal relationships;
Verify the adoption of prostheses and aids in relation to neuropsychological compensations and psychopathological risk;
Participate in functional rehabilitation in all acute and chronic childhood pathologies;
Document the effectiveness of rehabilitation methodologies according to functional recovery goals and the characteristics of pathologies evolving with development;
Engage in study, teaching, applied research, and professional consulting activities in healthcare services and other contexts requiring their professional skills;
Contribute to the training of support personnel and actively participate in continuing professional development related to their professional profile;
Practice professionally in public or private healthcare facilities, either as employees or self-employed practitioners.
