Neurophysiology and Movement Analysis Laboratory – UOC Neurorehabilitation Clinic (Director: Prof. Carlo Trompetto)
The Neurophysiology and Movement Analysis Laboratory, located at the Padiglione Maragliano (west wing, 3rd floor), is dedicated to the study of neuromotor mechanisms and movement disorders in patients with disabling neurological conditions, such as stroke, multiple sclerosis, and other diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system. The laboratory’s activities focus on the objective assessment of movement and muscle activity, primarily aimed at monitoring the effectiveness of rehabilitation interventions.
The laboratory team includes Prof. Laura Mori (physiatrist), Prof. Lucio Marinelli (neurologist), Prof. Luca Puce (kinesiologist), and Dr. Merhnaz Hamedani (physiotherapist, graduated technician). The laboratory is equipped with advanced systems for surface electromyography recording (Cometa and BTS systems) and a customized electromyography system, designed and built according to the research group’s specifications, used for the recording of sensory and motor evoked potentials. Motor evoked potentials are elicited using a Magstim 200 magnetic stimulator.
The Cometa system is mainly used for the analysis of upper limb movement, while the BTS system, in association with the GaitRite system, is used for gait analysis.
