Missions and Training Mobility
- Each PhD student has an annual fund equal to 10% of the scholarship for off-site training activities.
- Mandatory authorization from the Coordinator via a dedicated form (ask the PhD Office).

Study and Research Periods in Italy or Abroad
- Possibility to spend up to 12 months abroad (extendable to 18 months in case of co-tutelle or agreements, even non-consecutive).
- Approval from the Tutor and the Academic Board is required (for info contact the PhD Office).
- For scholarship holders: possibility of a 50% increase in the scholarship during stays abroad.
- For stays longer than 61 days: the host institution's invitation letter must be sent at least 2 months in advance to the Coordinator and the Teaching Office

Admission to the Next Academic Year
- Completion of the PhD Student Logbook on https://servizionline.unige.it/web-studenti2/it/ (minimum 180 ECTS total – approx. 60 ECTS/year).
- Preparation of the Annual Report (template provided by the PhD Neuroscience Office).
- Presentation of project progress to the Academic Board of the relevant Curriculum.
Withdrawals and Suspensions

- Course withdrawal→ Modulo online → Send to dottorato@segreterie.unige.it + ID document

International Co-Tutelle
- Notification to the Tutor, Coordinator, and PhD Office no later than the end of the 2nd year.
- At least 6 months in total must be spent at both institutions (may be non-consecutive).
- An agreement between UniGe and the foreign university is required (this enables the awarding of a double PhD degree).
- Official approval by UniGe and the partner university.
- 🎓 Final degree includes mention of the co-tutelle.
Final Defence
- Annual schedule provided by the PhD Office.
- At least 180 ECTS must be completed and recorded in the Logbook over the 3 years.
- Submission of the final report to the Academic Board for admission to thesis evaluation by external reviewers.
- Evaluation of the thesis and reviewers’ reports by the Academic Board, which approves admission to the public defense.
- Public defense in English before the appointed Committee.
- Degree awarded: Doctor of Philosophy / Ph.D.
- It is possible to request an extension (without scholarship) for thesis writing and proven scientific reasons for up to 12 months (modulo dedicato).
Doctor Europaeus / International PhD
- Completion of at least 3 months of research abroad (also non-consecutive) during the 3 years, in EU or non-EU countries.
- At least 2 positive evaluations of the thesis by foreign professors (EU or non-EU depending on the degree requested).
- Presence of at least 1 international member in the Final Examination Committee.
- Defense (even partially) in a European Union language different from the candidate’s native language.
