Research topics:

The activities of the field MEDS-26/D “Advanced Medical and Surgical Technology and Methodology” are divided into the following main lines of research:

- development and implementation of advanced magnetic resonance (MR) techniques, in particular quantitative imaging (relaxometry, QSM - Quantitative Susceptibility Mapping), diffusion imaging, functional MRI and spectroscopy in the field of multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and neurodegenerative diseases (Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis);

- integration of advanced magnetic resonance imaging and neurophysiology techniques, with particular regard to development, implementation and application of protocols for processing neuroimaging and data acquired with transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in healthy subjects and in patients with multiple sclerosis;

- study of neural correlates of motor and cognitive tasks, specifically development, implementation and application of upper and lower limb performance assessment tools and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) protocols during tasks performed under ecological conditions;

- implementation of translational approaches based on innovative technologies for applications in clinical and rehabilitation settings.

Motion analysis systems such as infrared cameras and inertial sensors are also used.
