Glaucoma research is divided into two main lines: one for diagnosis and one for treatment. For diagnosis, studies analyze new functional and structural systems for analyzing ganglion cells, while studies on treatment concern the lowering of ocular pressure, neuroprotection and possible surgical interventions to be performed. The ultimate goal is to preserve the visual function and quality of life of patients affected by glaucoma. The differential diagnosis between glaucomatous optic disease and other neuro-ophthalmological diseases of the optic nerve is another line of research in the laboratory: in which we try to classify the optic disc diseases using angioOCT.
