Laboratory of Applied Neurophysiology for Movement Disorders

The Laboratory of Applied Neurophysiology for Movement Disorders explores and investigates the processes driving sensory-motor-cognitive-emotion interactions in both healthy individual and people with neurodegenerative diseases. Our main research lines focus on the neurophysiological mechanisms underlying:

- the interaction between sensory-motor-cognitive-emotion information and motor control

- motor learning processes

- temporal prediction

- action observation and motor imagery

We also study neuroplasticity and the changes induced by innovative rehabilitative interventions in individuals with Parkinson Disease and other Movements Disorders and in the elderly.

The Laboratory of Applied Neurophysiology for Movement Disorders is equipped with advanced technologies to explore brain plasticity (e.g., navigated TMS, high-density EEG, EMG) and to assess motor performance and biomechanics (e.g., stereophotogrammetry, inertial sensors, pressure-sensitive walkways, digital tablets, and sensorized gloves). The laboratory employs non-invasive brain stimulations techniques (multisite-TES, rTMS) for both neurophysiology and rehabilitative applications.

The Laboratory of Applied Neurophysiology for Movement Disorders brings together researchers from diverse backgrounds in neuroscience, including neurologists, physiotherapists, neuropsychologists, and occupational therapists and neurophysiopathologist technicians.
